An Exceptional & Rare George III Silver-Gilt Two Handled Cup & Cover London 1818. Probably by Sarah & John William Blake.

Of monumental campana form, richly gilt and finely worked, with flared rim, the lower bellied section and rim embossed with broad lobes within thread surround and middle section applied with a band of high relief trailing vine tendrils on matted ground, acanthus leaf scroll handles, fluted domed cover with separate cone-shaped finial with acanthus leaves and berries, and band of fruiting vine tendrils. The grand scale, luxurious finish, and refined. Regency design indicate a commission for an aristocratic family, most likely intended for ceremonial display or as a prestigious table ornament. Height: 18in.
