A RARE REGENCY PERIOD OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE DINING SUITE ALONG WITH ITS ORIGINAL FITTED SILVER CARRYING CHEST.

BY MATTHEW BOULTON, CIRCA 1825

Comprising: Venison warming dish & cover, two large dishes & covers, a pair of soup tureens, four entree warming dish stands, dishes & covers, four sauce tureens & covers and a mazarine.

Each piece engraved with the family crest & motto of Saunders. Motto: Nil Conscire Sibi (without conscience). Crest: Elephants head issuing out of a mural crown. Family seat: Saunders Grove, County Wicklow. Estates: In the counties of Wicklow, Queens County, Kildare & Meath, and in the City of Dublin.

SAUNDERS: The Saunders family is of very ancient descent, derived from the Lords of Insbruck in Germany and coming to England circa 1370, and settling in Ireland during the reighn of Charles II and holding a distinguished position in that country.
Robert Francis Saunders for whom this suite was made suceeded his father in March 1825, and was a magistrate for the counties of Wicklow, Kildare & Carlow, and was Sheriff of Wicklow in 1822. He served with the 67th Regiment in the Peninsular & with the 68th in North America. He married Elizabeth Martha Pratt, daughter of Colonel Joseph Pratt & Jemima Roberta Tynte on 4th February 1840
